Here at Call the Nanny we welcome reliable, experienced and enthusiastic nannies, mother’s helps, maternity nurses and babysitters to register. We require all of our applicants to meet the following criteria:

  • Over the age of 21 years
  • Have a minimum of two years solid childcare experience
  • An up to date CV will a full employment history and no unexplained gaps
  • A minimum of two child related references whom we can contact
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (or willing to apply for one)
  • Hold a current Paediatric First Aid Certificate or be willing to book onto a course
  • Speak a good standard of English
  • Ability to work in the UK
  • Where a driver is required, a full, clean UK driving licence and confidence driving in the UK

Interviews

We will conduct an interview and contact your references. At the time of the interview you must bring along with you:

  • Registration form and photo ID
  • Proof of address
  • Names and contact details of references
  • Copies of any written references you may have
  • Copies of qualifications/certificates relevant to childcare
  • Your original DBS certificate
  • Your paediatric first aid certificate

We work closely with our nannies and babysitters, and value you highly as an important part of our business. We aim to support you through the recruitment process and once placed with a family we are available for continuing support and advice. Our ultimate goal is to place you in a rewarding position where you can form a long lasting relationship with the family.

Tips for Interviews

The most important aspect of a successful interview is to be prepared. Try to relax and be yourself!

  • Arrive 5-10 mins early
  • Dress professionally
  • Be aware of your body language, make eye contact, be alert
  • First/last impressions - remember the first 5 minutes of an interview are the most important, as with the end of the interview
  • If children are present - get down to their level, interact, engage and respond
  • Ask questions about the position to show that you are prepared. Have these written down in advance
  • Think about activities and meals you would plan/prepare appropriate for the ages of children being cared for
  • Talk about the job description, children's routines and what duties are expected from you
  • Remember to listen to the family and answer any questions they may have positively
  • Smile!

Tips for Babysitters

  • Be prepared, know where you are going and plan your route
  • Read the information we send you which will include a bit about the family and the children’s likes/dislikes/special requirements.
  • Arrive 5-10 mins early
  • Dress professionally and suitably
  • If the children are awake, get down to their level and interact with them
  • Always have a contact number for the parents (we will send you this on the booking confirmation)

Babysitting etiquette

A minimum booking of 3 hours with Call the Nanny can earn you £30 or more. When you join the babysitting register we will offer you job opportunities but there is no commitment to accept bookings and you can accept work only when it suits you. We ask you to honour a booking if you have accepted it. We understand that sometimes the unexpected happens and you may need to cancel, but we ask that you only do this for genuine reasons. If you fall ill prior to a booking please try and give us as much notice as possible to find a replacement.
